@watchmojo I couldnt see the hanging munchkin. Yall need to circle ⭕️ stuff so we can see it, not just tell us about it & move on. The Exorcist is one of my favorite movies, and it shouldn't be on this list. The face was on the FULL SCREEN. Anyone else feel Jesse plemons is like Philip seymour Hoffman's protege. This movie was the worst thing i've seen in a very long time i'm shocked and disgusted at the amount of time it has subsumed from my life. Insidious: that boy scene is a copied scene from a paranormal show. I think this film is about someone whos “daydreaming”. Im that kind of person, always create fake scenarios where I can be other people, play different roles, do different jobs, even have different gender. The girl and the boy are the janitors imagine. As someone who has low self-confident and not a lot of friends (well, no friend at all) ever since I was a child, I have “daydream” or faked scenarios, even when Im an adult now. So I can relate to this film. When you so lonely you have to create a fake life to make your life less boring. But every story must come to an end eventually.

I didn't read the book and I know nothing of Charlie Kaufman, so I was a complete innocent. I guessed none of the underlying meanings because I take things pretty literally until proven otherwise. I kept expecting it to go to horror rather than deeper into psychological drama. I did catch on that it was playing with time not having the usual meanings and that there was something dreamlike about it, but didn't quite take the bait to see the whole movie as a dream. So the reality of Jake's life kind of settled on me subconsciously without me realizing I was coming to see his life the way it really was rather than the way he was projecting it to be. It was pretty clear everything in the movie was meant to be symbolic, but I'm not very experienced at deciphering symbolism, so I started feeling what it meant without understanding why. I needed to read spoiler reviews to connect the dots. That said, the feelings Kaufman was trying to project using indirect language, pictures, etc., etc., got through, and seem even heavy-handed in retrospect, even though I couldn't figure out it was all wistfulness from missing out on life, which is why I need to rewatch. I was captivated by every moment on the first watching, and I'm sure I'll be watching even closer the second time. Genius. Intelligent movies are so rare, kudos.

Things to know before watching the movie (no spoilers) 1. You are a 100% guaranteed to feel a lot of confusion and anxiety. 2. Don't expect a normal narrative nor a clear explanation of what you are seeing, still pay attention to details because they make total sense once you get it. 3. This movie is ABSTRACT, everything is there for you to interpret it but ONLY after finishing the entire movie 4. It's not a movie for everyone, you either love it or hate it, but the moment you find what the movie was truly about you'll apreciate the originality and value of it. BONUS (may be considered as a spoiler, but I don't think it is, I wish I had known before watching) 4. You're getting inside of a fantasy happening in the mind of someone with suicidal thoughts. who's not necesarily the main character.

I know it's referencing the Oklahoma dream sequence but once they get to the gym I can only see Woody Allen as a janitor fighting a J. Crew model a la Bane v. Batman at the end of The Dark Knight Rises meets West Side Story. 9:06 OMG that gave me goosebumps. Wonderful melancholic tragedy about a life lost. The acting is convincing, the story mezmerising and the overall mood of the movie will grip you by the heart.
